Hi Everybody!
I love just about everything British. So much so that I've gone as far as to cook myself an authentic english breakfast ( if you haven't had one yet, I can't recommend it enough!) Not sure exactly where the fascination comes from. Maybe it's my desire to visit England someday, or maybe it's just watching too much Fawlty Towers. Either way, it was no surprise that I was going to get around to something that screams Britain sooner than later.

So with that, I bring to you the British Bobby's and a Crook! I just finished these guys up last night and I really like the way they came out. Each one was sculpted on a 5"x 7" wooden plaque and are ready to hang out on your wall. You can find them in my Etsy shop at littlegoldenchair.etsy.com. Creating a custom

     So, hi again! I just got a new commission this past weekend for a 5" to 6" Oswald (hippo) and I've been working on it steadily for the past four days now. I just finished painting it and wanted to show you guys how it came out, as well as the process I go through to sculpt a figure. 

This pic shows a bit of foil and a bit of polymer clay. I use the foil as a skeleton type structure, like a guide. It also saves on polymer plus your piece will cook evenly with less of a chance of cracking or breaking. I then start to roll out the clay and then place pieces all around until all the foil is covered.

                 

                                   

       This is when it started to take shape and make sense. I added the feet and mouth.

               

        Here I added the arms, tail, eyes, and dots. I use my fingers and a bit of water to smooth it all out. As you can see, compared to the original Oswald, the custom is a tad different but still looks pretty darn close.

        In this pic, I had already baked the figure at 275º F for 10 minutes and let it cool for about 45 minutes. Then, after the sculpt completely cooled, I started with a grey base coat of acrylic paint. For some reason, I always have issues with spray paint directly on Sculpey. I don't know if it's a chemical reaction. Adding a couple layers of acrylic, and then spray paint, works for me. After the base coat I started painting it with several layers of a deep blue acrylic.

         Here I spray painted the pink on oswald as well as the  light blue.

         After painting oswald I spray a matte clear coat over   him to seal in the layers of paint.And finally the finished   product.

New to this...

     So, I'm pretty new to this, as you can tell by my post. This is only my second time writing a blog entry. I know what you're saying, "Get with the times already!" I did join Facebook for a bit. Although, it was only because a really good friend asked me to, and quickly found out that it just wasn't the place for me. But I wanted a place to keep people updated on new products and give a glimpse of behind the scenes action. So here we are!

  Well, enough of that. My shop is called the " Little Golden Chair " on Etsy. It's not really a new shop, but I am totally revamping it. I'll soon be completing a bunch of new sculpts made from polymer clay. But for now, I currently have some left over stock of resin figures from an old art show.
